A friend of mine will study next year at the university in Berkeley...Are tours permitted?(give a different answer) .
Yes, the Visitor Services Center in 101 University Hall, along University Ave at Oxford street, organizes free tours inside the campus. "Cal", as students nicknamed the University of California at Berkeley, holds the Campanile, built in 1914 following St Mark's Campanile in Venice. There's a 2$ ride to the top with the elevator. Moreover, the tour takes you to the Bancroft Library, displaying the tiny gold nugget that caused the Californian gold rush in 1848.
