You could take a look at Des Moines Art Center which has a large collection of paintings, sculptures , modern art & mixed media. Among the artists of the permanent collection are Edward Hopper, Henri Matisse, and Francis Bacon. I loved the outdoor sculptures and the vivid rose garden. On the outside there is an external reflecting pool. Admission is free.
