I know that in July there's the Spirit of Detroit Music Festival, which brings together a wide variety of local independent musicians for an impressive weekend music experience. You can hear almost all kind of music, from R&B to country, blues to hip-hop, jazz to rock.
If you're a jazz lover, don't miss the Labor Day Weekend, because usually that's when the annual Ford Detroit International Jazz Festival is held. That's America's largest free jazz festival, at which headliners like Aretha Franklin have performed. there are around 1000 jazz artists from around the world.
