Being one of the most popular destinations in Hawaii, yes, it's quite crowded. But I wouldn't put it that way. It has a lot of facilities, there are many attractions like restaurant and music venues, it is very beautiful and it's very large, so you won't feel cramped. If you really like solitude, you should go there late in the evening or very early in the morning, it's pretty deserted then.
