If you are interested in rock climbing, why not try the Red Rock Canyon? It's challenging, and beautiful as the desert environment is one of the best. Plus, it's not too far from the metropolitan area, just 20 miles. And the routes are known to be of moderate technical difficulty. They have a schedule from October to mid May, offering courses for beginner and intermediate level. Just make a call at (800) 424-2249.
