Last summer I stayed at a campground called Leo Carrillo State Beach Campground which you can find on 35000 W Pacific Coast Highway. This shady site about 28 mile northwest of Santa Monica is popular with families and fills up rather quickly in the warmer months. A camping place is about 13 - 20 usd, with flush toilets and coin-operated hot showers.
