My favourite place to stay in LA is Casa Malibu Inn (22752 Pacific Coast Hwy). It has its own beach and the 21 rooms are wrapped around a lovely courtyard. Half of them have great ocean views and the nicest ones have private decks, fireplaces and kitchenettes. Even Hollywood star, Lana Turner, once stayed in the Catalina Suite for 18 months. A bit pricey though : a room can cost you up to 350$!
