Take them to the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, near the beach. The admission fee is by donation (minimum suggested is 1 dollar for children and 5 dollars for adult). This aquarium is operated by a nonprofit environmental organization called Heal the Bay. It is a good place for children as they learn about jellyfish, small sharks and other critters residing in Santa Monica Bay. They also get to pet sea urchins, starfish and other tide pool animals.
