Los Angeles, Egyptian Theater

Posted 1 year ago by carl in response to skip's question: What's the first movie theater in Hollywood? Could you give me some details? (give a different answer) .

The Egyptian Theater that opened in 1922 was Hollywood's first movie theater. It is located on 6712 Hollywood Blvd and it is really something, you should go and see it. It is decorated in Egyptian style, a sumptuous getup complete with sunburst ceilings, hieroglyphs and sphinx heads. In its glory days the theater had live caged monkeys and usherettes dressed in Cleopatra style outfit. On weekends the theater usually presents "Forever Hollywood", a documentary about Hollywood. A ticket costs 9 usd. Occasionally, "Behind-the-scenes" tours are being held for 12 usd.
