You should take them to Pacific Park at the Santa Monica Pier. Free entrance till late 11 pm or even 12.30 am on Friday and Sunday. It is a small amusement park housing the world's first solar powered Ferris wheel and a harmless roller coaster. There is also little children rides, midway games and you are allowed to bring food. Rides cost 1.50 to 4.50 dollars each or you can buy your kids unlimited rides for 11 to 22 dollars depending on their height.
