There's some beaches famed round the globe like Santa Monica, Venice, Hermosa, Manhattan and Malibu. The water here is supervised by Heal the Bay organization, so you don't have to worry about pollution. Swimming is fine till late spring, but water is warmest in August and September (21 C). For some best quality surfing, go to Malibu Lagoon State Beach...along with some best quality shiny muscles men :)
