Despite its bad reputation, Harlem is no more dangerous than the other areas of NYC. Besides, there are a lot of cafes where jazz concerts are a habit, some gospel churches, as well as theaters and museums. So I would advise taking a walk throughout Harlem, something interesting to be done will appear for sure.
