I can recommend you Travelodge, a place on South University Ave, and the advantage was that it was indeed cheap. But it had its inconveniences and I mean some major ones like heating not working. Left asside a noisy atmosphere from pets & guests. However, if you're willing to try, be prepared not to feel exactly like home.
